 Happens to me too. In the xmpp channel this is shown:

 (2:11:15 AM) doubleukay [doubleukay at xxx/romeo] entered the room.
 (2:11:15 AM) doubleukay [doubleukay at xxx/romeo] entered the room.
 (2:16:42 AM) doubleukay [doubleukay at xxx/romeo] entered the room.
 (2:16:42 AM) doubleukay [doubleukay at xxx/romeo] entered the room.

 despite staying connected to the server all the time. I appear in the chat
 participant list multiple times.

 Pidgin 2.9.0 with Openfire 3.7.0
