Comment:

 I think it is a good idea to be able to manage this special case. So I'm
 marking as a Enhance request and sending it to "Patches Welcome"
 milestone.

 I guess it would be "easy" to hack the smiley themes code to get this
 working. Still I think it would be better to move the code to use the
 Theme API and maybe this will simplify some stuff.
