 My buddy-list window disappeared, but on start-up my Pidgin was configured
 to automatically join a few IRC channels. If I start Pidgin, it opens the
 chat-window in those IRC channels which proves Pidgin is working fine, but
 my buddy-list window is nowhere to be seen. Since I disabled the systray
 icon, there is nothing I can do except use the IRC channels.

 There is no way to access the preferences or make the buddy-list window
 visible again from the chat window. If I stop pidgin, edit
 ~/.purple/prefs.xml and set /pidgin/blist/list_visible to 1, it
 automatically turns it back to 0 when starting Pidgin. I do not understand
 why Pidgin would change my preference settings I manually corrected.

 Can someone help me to restore either the systray icon or the buddy-list
 window so Pidgin becomes usable again ?
