 just an fyi, I recently had some other keyboard issues..turns out the
 problem with those as well as the problems I was experiencing with pidgin,
 were a result of a program called "ID Vault". once removed all keyboard
 issues were resolved, and I once again can use pidgin... just wanted to
 let you know is case anyone else ever experiences this.. THe problem was
 when I would type any letter on the keyboard I would get a number and it
 was in order example; any letter =0, any letter =2 etc....
