Comment:

 Unfortunately there isn't anything pidgin can do about this, we are
 required by the XMPP specifications to consider the stream dead and
 disconnect. That being said the server should be doing the same thing and
 not allowing the invalid XMPP to propagate into the network (but a number
 of servers don't do that).

 In short: Digsby is broken in that it ever attempts to send this (pidgin
 used to be broken like this but was fixed ages ago) and the server is
 broken in that it doesn't correctly detect and drop the stanza (and client
 connection) that generated this stanza.
