Comment:

 Stream compression is unrelated to the problem here, pidgin continues
 beyond the point of negotiating that and the server is ok with that
 however almost immediately thereafter the server appears to simply stop
 responding to pidgin and then some time later (about three minutes later)
 pidgin appears to give up on the connection (from what I can tell, it
 doesn't log any message just begins disconnecting).

 Can you get a similar log from miranda when it connects successfully? Does
 miranda also fail to connect with stream compression turned off?
