 To cover myself for now I've written a small plugin mostly put together
 from the perl plugin api page examples.   I've attached it to this ticket
 incase it helps somebody else,   if it's installed in a global plugin
 location and the plugin is set to automatically load it will setup a
 jabber account for the user with the serveraddress of whatever
 $serveraddress is set to in the code.
