 In 2.7.10 and before I was able to type:

 /join mynewroom

 Then pidgin showed me the 'Create New Room' dialog and created the room.

 Since 2.7.11 this will only work if I prepend the room name with a hash
 symbol (#)

 /join #mynewroom

 Does work, but creates the new room with the hash symbol.
