Comment:

 The spelling dictionary installation via the Pidgin installer is not
 currently functional - that's why you have to skip it.  Given that you're
 skipping it, it shouldn't be too surprising that it doesn't work.

 There are instructions for manually installing a dictionary in the
 [wiki:FAQ].
