 In a conversation with a buddy who has custom formatting on his font, I am
 no longer seeing his formatting in the conversation window even though I
 have "show formatting on incoming messages" checked in preferences. We
 both use Pidgin 2.10.0 on windows 7 over the gmail/XMPP protocol.

 Our chat history is now cluttered with XML, which appears to suggest that
 I am receiving the formatting information but it is manifesting as markup
 code instead of the displayed formatting (chat logs are set to save in
 HTML).

 In the conversation window I see an incoming message like this (with no
 formatting applied):[[BR]]
 (11:10:33 PM) [buddy]: strange..

 But when I open the chat history to see the same message, I see
 this:[[BR]]

 Could this be a result of some malformed XML on the sender's side or could
 the problem be on my client side?
