 Last version to work properly with IRC was

 pidgin_2.7.9-1_i386.deb

 Versions that had various issues in IRC are:

 pidgin_2.9.0-1_i386.deb
 pidgin_2.9.0-3_i386.deb
 pidgin_2.10.0-1_i386.deb

 The older one that was fine with IRC had some other issue, but I've been
 so annoyed by the IRC issues that I wish I'd never upgraded!

 Let me list some of them:

 Failing to realise that it's not connected. IE, times out from other users
 perspectives and stays appearing online, and appearing to send messages
 which are not being sent because its not connected anymore.

 Whatever changed between 2.7 and 2.9 sure screwed IRC. I updated the
 pidgin plugin pack too, versions of that are as follows:

 I just closed two other old bugs that I reported some years ago that were
 fixed at some point without closing the issues, I guess in the process of
 other work. Give me browny points for those :-)

 freenode IRC btw, if that matters.

 Edited to remove things that I did not experience in 2.10.0. Have not been
 able to reproduce the fault that I did experience with 2.10.0, so closing.
