 Version: pidgin-2.10.3; OS: Slackware64; Perl: v5.14.2 for x86_64-linux;
 Background: I configured fine (seen below) and Pidgin failed building on
 the make portion (seen below also).

 ./configure --disable-vv --disable-meanwhile --disable-avahi --disable-nm
 --disable-tk
 (ran fine)

 make (made fine until below)

 /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.14.2/x86_64-linux/CORE/libperl.a(op.o): relocation
 R_X86_64_32S against `PL_sv_yes' can not be used when making a shared
 object; recompile with -fPIC
 /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.14.2/x86_64-linux/CORE/libperl.a: could not read
 symbols: Bad value
 collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
 make[5]: *** [perl.la] Error 1
