 This is bound to be a strange one , because usually the opposite is true.

 I use a F5 VPN client based on IE. I go to a set HTTP page, authenticate ,
 then click on a link to launch a F5 VPN client. From there I'm ok to use
 my work network.

 While attached to the VPN Pidgin has no problems connecting to AIM or YIM.
 All works normally.

 When I shut down the VPN connection, Pidgin has no problems with YIM , but
 AIM connections fail with a SSL handshake error.

 I looked over my connections settings, ensured that " No proxy " is
 selected. I tried SSL on , and off. No dice. Also I poked around in
 windows firewall to ensure that there was nothing changed by the VPN
 client. Restarting / reinstalling also tried.

 Please understand , this is the opposite of the 'usual' problem. Unless
 the VPN is active I can't connect to AIM.

 I'm using:
 Pidgin 2.10.3 (libpurple 2.10.3)
 Windows 7 Professional
 OTR Plugin
