 I just experienced exact same issue on Pidgin 2.10.6, and the exact
 [http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/11581#comment:13 same fix] worked.

 Is there a way one can automatize the process of re-adding contacts? Doing
 it manually is kind of a PITA.
