New description:

 A segmentation fault occurs pseudo-randomly during MSN filetransfers (non-
 direct through the servers, if that matters).

 GDB debug session log and a tentative patch attached .. I have no idea if
 the patch is actually "correct", but at least it prevents a NULL pointer
 access (or rather, NULL pointer + offset leading to a bogus memory
 address).

 Might be related to #15225 .. but I'm not certain.
