 For the record, the bug does NOT seem to occur on up-to-date CentOS 6.3
 x86_64.

 When setting buddy icon with the "bad" PNG (png-1-width-800-height-2.png
 MD5 4a29eed06512cddccf6d48b19d6f92e7), it is displayed (thus making the
 preference window unusable but that another matter) and Pidgin does NOT
 crash.

 Please note that the PNG is properly displayed in (stock) Firefox and
 image viewer.
 Please note that SELinux is activated but the test does not cause anything
 to be logged into the audit log.

 GNOME 2.28
