New description:

My hard disk drive is going into the standby mode after 10 minutes but I
have noticed recent wake ups and made a deeper look on what is waking up
 my disk.

Pidgin seems to save some informations if users in the buddy list
login/logout or the tray icon changes because of inactivity. To be precise
Pidgin is creating the files ~/.purple/accounts.xml.save,
~/.purple/blist.xml.save, ~/.purple/prefs.xml.save and moving them to the
 original file without .save.

I think there should be a solution to prevent this I/O activities. For
example Pidgin could save these changes into the memory and write them
only to the profile if Pidgin is closed.
