 There is no certainity, that problem is located in configuration file. I
 suspect a problem elsewhere in Pidgin tree. That's why I'm asking for help
 with locating it.

 Please, try to apply attached patch and paste here the output (running
 make in libpurple/protocols/gg would be sufficient).
