 I wrote a simple patch that gives the user an advanced XMPP option to
 ignore group changes from the server, if local buddies exist.

 Google Talk already has this tweak. This server never sends group for
 buddies. Therefore all grouping is managed locally by pidgin.
 Unfortunately the old hack prevented name changes from propagating into
 the roster.

 These changes are really minimal, but deliver huge benefit for users that
 want to build groups and meta contact for all their buddies, including
 facebook friends.
