 In most IM conversations, there's only one other person involved. Their
 name will then be displayed on the conversation tab, so it would suffice
 to use different colors for the text to distinguish messages.

 Heik: i installed pidgin this time[[BR]]
 Dan: i used to have that[[BR]]
 Dan: now i use an inferior product[[BR]]
 Heik: can you turn off usernames?[[BR]]
 Dan: dunno, never tried

 would become

 i installed pidgin this time  >> dark red/grey text color[[BR]]
 i used to have that  << black[[BR]]
 now i use an inferior product  << black[[BR]]
 can you turn off usernames?  >> dark red/grey[[BR]]
 dunno, never tried  << black

 ... which would be more space efficient and easier to read.

 There's already a plugin to color the text, but I didn't find anything to
 hide user names.


 One could color the usernames white (on white bg), but that wouldn't be a
 bear the same benefit.
