 If I recall correctly the "periodic who" which causes this problem was
 implemented for keeping track of people's away status. But I suggest
 implementing this on demand, like when you mouse hover one's nick or
 something.

 As for how to display it, I'm thinking of some away icon and grayed nick,
 like in buddy list (user nick would be grayed out both in channel's user
 list and the message area).
