 The build of Pidgin 2.10.1 provided for windows does not seem to have perl
 support compiled in.

 This was discovered while attempting to configure Growl for Windows
 support.

 After installing activeperl(5.14.2-1402 x86; the FAQ suggests 5.10.x but
 this is not available for download from the activeperl site), ensuring I
 had the perl based plugin in the correct
 location(%appdata%\.purple\plugins), and even re-installing Pidgin, I
 eventually noticed the Build Information page under Help (the FAQ directs
 users to Help->About to check for perl support) and discovered that Perl
 is flagged as 'disabled'.
