 That seems like maybe the SIPE plugin to me.  Pidgin doesn't include an
 "Office Communicator" protocol plugin.

 I'm not aware of a way to hide the notifications you're asking about.  I'd
 vote to not include that functionality directly within Pidgin.  It could
 be implemented as a C plugin, though.

 And I'm not sure why you get duplicate notifications... that sounds wrong.
 I'm not sure if that would be a Pidgin bug or a SIPE bug (or possibly
 neither).
