 This seems like as good a place as any to note that for me on Windows7, I
 can't get Pidgin to reliably alert me to new messages in conversation
 windows (non-tabbed) that aren't minimized but are just hidden under other
 application windows.

 I've tried using the Message Notification plugin, and now conversation
 windows seem to *sometimes* come to the front, but more often they stay
 hidden and nothing in the taskbar or system tray does anything to attract
 attention.

 The end result is that I tend to not notice messages people sent unless I
 remember to constantly close the conversation windows.
