Comment:

 I'll be darned. I went and fixed it and everything is now fine. I think
 that is a relic from trying to get an updated US English dictionary to
 work in Aspell (kept flagging all my American spellings as wrong) in a
 significantly older version of Pidgin. Thanks for your assistance.
