 I haven't set anything to my knowledge. I had pidgin working months ago
 then it suddenly started having this issue so I stopped using it and
 uninstalled it too.

 Recently I downloaded it to try again and have the exact same issue as
 described above. This occurred straight after installing, I haven't even
 been able to open the program window at all since installing. The system
 tray icon appears then disappears with nothing else happening.

 Is it possible there are settings stored somewhere from when the program
 was being used months ago (that caused the problem) that were not removed
 on uninstalling and the program is reading again?
