 Please follow [wiki:TipsForBugReports the instructions] to get a debug log
 and attach it to this ticket.[[BR]]The resource value is arbitrary - just
 used to differentiate different places where the account is logged in
 from.

 Based on the information there, it looks like pidgin is correctly
 reflecting the information that it is getting from the server.

 The other thing that you could do is to gather the Debug Log output from
 when the user switches status.

 If you log out and back in in Pidgin, does the Buddy List show the same
 thing as the openfire console?
