 It would be more meaningful to display the buddy list as a "tool window"
 (is what it's called, I think). Having a maximize-button it silly, while I
 expect the close button and the minimize button to be synonymous for an
 application like this. Lastly, the think border that comes with normal
 windows feel a little bloated for such a small window.

 Also, while you're at it. The buddy list really doesn't need a taskbar
 button, since it's a kind of application that is running *all the time*
 and has a better spot in the systray.
