 According to the [http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/BuddyListThemes theme
 documentation]:
 {{{
 show_status - if this is set to 1 it will show a status message for each
 buddy, or if it is set to 0 it will hide the status message for all
 buddies.
 }}}

 However setting this to 0 does not hide the status messages. I also tried
 setting it to -1 just in case.
