 I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 on a Thinkpad T500 using Pidgin 2.10.6 (libpurple
 2.10.6). After an update a couple of months back (I don't remember which
 one), Pidgin stopped using the Gnome proxy settings. I have to set this
 for each pidgin IM account (i.e. AIM, Gtalk, etc.). When behind an http
 proxy, I have to set this individually in the account settings even though
 my Gnome proxy is set correctly. And vice-versa when I'm connected
 directly to the Internet and not behind a proxy server.
