 Assume you have "Hide new IM conversations" and "Mute sounds" options
 enabled.
 Every time a new person contacts you, the tray icon changes to "new
 message" and you have to click it to open the conversation window.
 If you have at least two accounts active and one of them is stuck in a
 "connecting" state, for example due to a technical issue with a server,
 the "connecting" icon has a priority over "new message" icon.
 This can lead to missing a conversation when the situation is prolonged
 (Pidgin waits a long time before declaring a timeout and periodically
 tries to reconnect).

 My suggestion is to give "new message" icon priority over "connecting"
 icon.
