 suspected a security problem today when inexplicably Pidgin logged me out
 and told me i was signed on in more than 1 place.

 changed the outlook/hotmail password on the website and the Pidgin log in
 details. Now pidgin will log in to "messenger" and report email receipts,
 but clicking on any of the "open mail" type buttons opens the browser
 (tried firefox, chrome & IE8) but gives a "404 not found" message in the
 browser window.

 above is the URL which Pidgin seems to be feeding the browser. I am
 beginning to suspect that MS may be changing something at their end which
 caused the multiple login error to begin with.
