Comment:

 The problem is related to loading of the Perl Plugin loader, not your
 particular perl script.

 I do know that the perl plugin works with !ActivePerl 5.10.1 because
 that's what I've used it with in the past -there have been reports of it
 working with Strawberry Perl, but I haven't ever tried it myself.

 Does the backtrace have more information from when it gets into the
 libpurple code?
