 I wasn't able to reproduce this just now.  There are a lot of variables
 related to establishing a connection between two computers when
 transferring a file.

 A few things that would be helpful when investigating this:
 - The last 5 or 10 lines from the debug log from immediately before the
 crash.  Since Pidgin is crashing you can't copy this from the debug
 window.  You would need to start Pidgin from a command line and pass in
 the "-d" flag.
 - What type of network are both people using?  Both behind a home router?
 Behind different home routers, or the same?  Does either router support
 upnp and was it enabled at the time?
