 think you would still be able to do your own standalone releases more

 some users might end up with 2 versions of the plugin if they installed it
 themselves locally).  And it would be up to you whether you want to
 completely move your development to our source repo, or continue
 maintaining your code in your own source repo and periodically sync into
 our repo.

 Wasn't part of the most recent GSOC a web UI for plugin tracking or
 something like that? This could alleviate - to some degree - this (and
 any) upstream vs bundled release issues (particularly if plugins do their
 own version checking somehow)
