 I have recently installed a new OS & Pidgin and this problem has
 persisted. I recall that in my previous OS and Pidgin installation, the
 problem had somehow been fixed, but I cannot recall how (or even if it was
 from my doing).

 In any case, please look into this. I'm somewhat aghast at how long this
 ticket has remained open and unsolved.
