Hi.
When a server presents an unknown (better said: not verifiable)
certificate, pidgin/purple just shows (when clicking on the view
certificate button) it's fingerprint and expiry dates.
It should give more info, at least issuer/subject, but ideally all
information from the certificate, just as e.g. Mozilla browsers do it in
the details of the cert.
The extension fields often contains important information like DNS names
(in addition to the CN) or readable information on where to get the
necessary root-certs.
