 This patch has the side effect of exposing these values in the UI (which
 presumably wasn't the original intent, or it would have been done in the
 first place).  I'm not necessarily opposed to exposing them, although if
 they aren't values that should be messed with under normal circumstances,
 perhaps there's a another better solution.
