 Confirmed on Linux (Mint 14, Mint 15), so this is not an OS-specific
 issue.  Also confirming that re-logging in appears to reinstate some buddy
 icons some of the time.  However, I don't see the same error/warning
 messages, even though the debug window's level is set to "all".
