 I was able to connect to both of your domains without a certificate
 verification warning just fine.

 pidgin may not be using /etc/ssl/certs. What ssl library is your pidgin
 built with support for? See Help->Build Information about NSS and GnuTLS.

 Where did you get pidgin from? What does the Build Information dialog list
 the arguments were to configure?
