 Right now, upon receiving a friend request from a new contact, Pidgin
 displays a small panel at the bottom of the Buddy List with the options to
 confirm or deny the request. Unfortunately there does not seem to be any
 way of letting the user know that such a request was received so there are
 times when you don't see it for quite a long time if your buddy list is
 minimized.

 I think it would be a good idea to have some sort of alert mechanism for
 these requests. Some options that come to mind could be changing the
 notification icon (as it is done when there is an unread message) or
 converting the accept/deny request panel to a pop-up window.
