 Perhaps the problem lies in the way Pidgin handles unplanned
 disconnections?  Maybe it should handle them differently -- I don't have
 enough knowledge of pidgin to say exactly what happens step by step, only
 that the result is not what the user (me and at least one other) expects.
 I would be glad to vote on a bug to fix the way pidgin handles unplanned
 disconnections, if that's the problem.
