 This error started after upgrading to Kubuntu 13.10. Pidgin was running
 under Kubuntu 13.04 with no issues.

 Reloaded from Ubuntu repositories, and from Pidgin developers site, with
 the same results.

 Current install is from Ubuntu repositories, with no plug-ins:

 pidgin -v
 Pidgin 2.10.7 (libpurple 2.10.7)

 Kubuntu:
 uname -a
 Linux JonJ-Serval-Pro 3.11.0-19-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Tue Mar 11 18:48:34
