 implemented]] something in this direction, in case you want use it as
 inspiration. [[https://github.com/vslavik/winsparkle|WinSparkle]] is a
 Windows port for the mentioned Adium mechanism. Unfortunately it does not
 have silent updates yet, but it has two advantages over the release
 notification plugin already:

 * Direct link to the new installer
 * Displaying of the new features added
