 Depending on the resolution, one either experience a slowdown when sending
 messages/using the buddy list or super high memory usage, cpu usage while
 pidgin remains unresponsive.

 To test, open your graphics editor of choice and create a large (blank)
 avatar (e.g. 1000x1000) for a slowdown) or a gigantic one (8000x8000) for
 a freeze and use that as a custom buddy icon.
