 You mean like pidgin already does and has for as long as I'm aware of? If
 you don't see a user list in your chat room window then you have most
 likely hidden that pane at some point in the past. There should be a ui
 grabber bar at the extreme right of the chat history area. Grab it and
 drag to the left.

 If that fails you can always edit your prefs.xml and change the
 userlist_width setting to some non-zero value (which is what it presumably
 has at the moment for you).
