Comment:

 GG prpl (for 2.x.y) doesn't set PURPLE_CONNECTION_HTML flag (see
 PurpleConnectionFlags). That means, messages being sent/received are not
 in HTML format. Despite this, Spectrum sends messages in HTML format.

 I think it's still Spectrum problem, they should just check this flag and
 strip HTML tags if necessary.
