 This is a similar issue to #14603 and #15056, but it's not quite the same
 as either of those either. I first noticed this problem when I upgraded
 from Mint 16 to 17, which are based off Ubuntu 13.10 and 14.04
 respectively.

 When Pidgin starts, it makes a space in the system tray for the icon, but
 it doesn't show up. Unlike #14603, clicking the space doesn't bring up the
 buddy list. If I restart Cinnamon (Alt+F2, "r") it shows up. If I change
 the system tray setting to Never and back to Always, it shows up.

 It's not a big deal since these workarounds aren't hard, but it is
 annoying.
