 please see bug #11191 and debian bug n°621940 (https://bugs.debian.org
 /cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=621940) which are about gconfd
 presence/absence.

 It would really be a progress if gconf2 could become a dpkg "Recommends"
 rather than a depends as it's the case currently.

 As someone stated in the related Ubuntu bug report, there is a http_proxy
 variable to fetch proxies settings (and a preference box in pidgin to set
 them manually), thus no need to pull all these dependencies just for a
 couple of system-wide settings.
