 Using Pidgin 2.10.11 built for Mac OS X (GTK 2.24.28 with quartz backend)
 on Mac Ports.

 Mac OS X 10.10.4 (Yosemite) [[BR]]

 Originally reported in [https://trac.macports.org/ticket/28069 Mac Ports
 ticket #28069] against Pidgin 2.7.9.

 On startup, status icon shows 'connecting' status but fails to update
 further regardless of connection state or the status selected in the
 icon's own 'Change Status' menu item or in the Buddy List.

 Behavior is reported to have begun after changeset 2f009ef19243.

 Attached patch fixes the problem although it may not be optimal. See Mac
 Ports ticket for further discussion.
